Bombus lapidarius (Linnaeus,) Description and notes A very distinctive bumblebee with extensive red marking over the last quarter of the abdomen and no yellow bands on the thorax of the females; males have the red tail and (usually) extensive yellow markings on the face and thorax. Bombus, the Bumblebee. Contributed by Carol Wasserloos, Master Gardener. Ask any dedicated gardener, and she’ll tell you—“I have an abundance of bees in my summer garden.” Ask her what kind, and the answer will probably be less confident—“Honey bees and bumblebees, I think.” And that is likely correct, as far as it goes.

Get this from a library! Bombus finds a friend. [Elsie J Larson; Elizabeth Haidle] -- Bombus the bumblebee is feeling quite lonely until he meets a much-needed friend. Bumblebees are fascinating creatures, vital for food, but until recently overlooked and under appreciated. This book is fascinating, the early chapters about bee physiology and thermo regulation have resulted in a couple more books hitting my to read list and for me were probably the most interesting parts of the book/5.

The name of the book is Bombus the Bumblebee, right. And the scientific name for bumblebee is bombus. I liked the whole book, there was nothing I disliked. I would recommend Bombus the Bumblebee for kids my age.

My thoughts-Wow!. What a great book to teach children about self-acceptance. Bombus was a lovable bumblebee who wanted to be accepted /5(18). Bombus The Bumblebee is definitely an encouraging and heartwarming story.

It is a book that uses a bumblebee created by God to show how God created everyone just the way He wanted them. Not only does it have an awesome story telling about God's creation, the book has awesome information in /5.

Bombus the Bumblebee, by Elsie Larson, is a cute little child's Bombus the Bumblebee book that reminds us of the diversity of God's creation. In this book, young readers will follow Bombus the bumblebee as he discovers that he is different than the other bees around him.

At first, Bombus /5. Elsie Larson's Bombus the Bumblebee is an adorable story about Bombus, a bumblebee who learns that God designed him and made him uniquely from the rest of creation. The book opens with the Biblical creation account, specifically noting that God spoke the creation into existence and declared it 5/5(2).

Bumblebees have always been favoured subjects for scientific study, and research has accelerated in recent years. Many new discoveries have been made with regard to their ecology and social behaviour. Over the last twenty years the world has seen the commercialisation of bumblebee breedingfor pollination, and the invasion of new parts of the globe by bumblebee species, with potentially far.

This species is more likely to be found at lower elevations, and closer to the coast. It can be distinguished from the yellow faced bumble bee by having yellow hairs on its "belly". Because they are essential pollinators, loss of bumble bees can have far ranging ecological consequences.

Alarmingly, recent work by the Xerces Society in concert with IUCN Bumble Bee Specialist Group, indicates that some species have experienced rapid and dramatic declines more than others. While some species have received considerable conservation attention, other species such as.
